Anti-Piracy Defense Course Learning Objectives:

The IMSN Anti-Piracy Defense Course is designed for the officers and crew of commercial shipping vessels.  It will provide students with various concepts related to compliance with anti-piracy laws and the necessary training to handle a pirate attack.  The course consists of classroom work as well as anti-piracy drills, defensive tactics and other exercises.

  • Bring crews up to standards set out by the MSC, USCG, and IMO
                   - Teach how assess, audit and update a Ship Security Plan
                   - Teach how to comply with USCG Directive 104-6, specifically
  • Impart knowledge of piracy
                   -Knowledge of the history and frequency of pirate attacks worldwide
                   -Knowledge of pirate tactics and rationale
  • Impart knowledge of vulnerabilities and security assessments
                   -Knowledge of various ships and various vulnerabilities
  • Knowledge and use of training relevant to a pirate attack
                   -Watch Keeping
                   -Mindset
                   -Lock Down procedures
                   -Drills
                   -Hand-to-hand defensive tactics such as handcuffing
                   -Basic weapons familiarization and safety
                   -Non-lethal Anti-Piracy systems available
                   -Guidance on how contingency plans and injuries due to pirate attacks
                   -Guidance on how to take prisoners
                   -Guidance on how to survive a hostage situation
  • Knowledge to operate IMSN non-lethal Triton Shield Anti-Piracy System
                   -How to incorporate Triton Shield APS as a set of measures in the SSP
